Is it weird being a magician?

Okay, so I’ve been doing card tricks and various other magic things since summer of 2007 and I’ve started to think that people think that a person who does magic is weird or something. Does anyone know more about this?

I’ve been watching Lance Burton and David Copperfield on youtube for a while. They have intriged me to try and become a magician. I don’t want to be one of those people that buy magic tricks off the internet. I want to create them and use them. I’ve taken resistant materials in school as this will help me.

I would like to buy a magician’s kit and learn how to perform magic tricks. However, most of the kits that I find for sale on the internet are marketed for young children (i.e., “ages 6-8″).

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good novice/beginner magic kit (that is not designed for children)?

Can anybody recommend any good books or websites for close-up card magic with explanations and possibly a book or website that has different ability levels (beginner, amateur, advanced etc.)

And I don’t want rubbish beginner tricks that are just like making a coin going through a glass or something, I want the cool street magic tricks. Like the stuff David Blaine and Derren Brown did before they started doing different types of magic.

This would be very helpful because when I am older I want too start doing this as a way of earning money during University by playing at pubs and restaurants, and possibly making it a career if I start doing it professionally on TV and stuff.

To my friends and those loved by them. Lo-fi goodness. Oh my golly! I’ve never droned magic flowers, or even pondered its repercussions, but I could possibly drown them in a giant bathtub from the vanguard. Most, simply laugh or smirk at such overwhelming dissonance, dismissing the riotous qualtites and its experimental extravagance, as nothing more than being full of one’s self or inflating the already exaggerated egos these noise artists, allegedly, possess. Will the noise seem forced? Did they try too hard? Are they delusional? No matter how you go about answering these questions, some will say they are the wannabe anthems for the (seemingly) insane people of all the world. What a word noise is and what it conveys: wild, harsh, vicious, dirty, obscene, vulgar, disgusting, sickening, vile, raw. Made by ‘weirdos’ for ‘weirdos’. Nothing is revealed. Innocent enough though, with its scratchy strains. The reclusive, Elephant man has come forth, assuming his position he so reluctantly accepts-as it is bestowed unto him by most. Expected and unexpected bursts of ridiculousness and faux-genius. Walk down the street with this album in your grimy hands and you will possibly attain some unwanted hipster credibility. Two minutes. one, two, three, four seconds. Portals. Horns. Moons. Loons. Fuzz on the verge of collapse; falling into complete disarray and bottomless anarchy. Away, into the inevitable explosion….and implosion. There is this girl. She stands waiting for the feeling. I know this. But, she is too, too, too dull for the taste of it. panning and crashes. A demented arcade of invisible, yet imagined, lights and assorted flashes spiral toward you. Bursts of joy and pain. Scratches on the strings. No indulgence in its aftershock. Banging. bang. bang. banging and more. Boom! A certain mastery of amateurity is displayed, and in full fashion if I may add, plus passion and feeling; and an adherence to the lo-fi aesthetic. O why? Whether it is high or low, it is still an assalt on all establsihed authority. I assume all this drivel seems forced. Mashed up. mashes. The puzzle is thrown out and they proceed to place all the pieces into a cohesive carboard mural that will showcase their apathy and indiffrence to acceptance. Pop melody. The vulgarity of these screeches cannot be justified with more typed phrases or neatly structured wit or descriptions of the total disregard of fitting in. It must be heard. Seen? Felt? Touched? Experienced for yourself. So, I call all who still bother with (and stand) this “terrible form of art” or what it feels like to have your “brain being melted”. All of our brains are gone by now; we do not know dissonace from melody and harmony. Apologies are on the side. Take one before you go as well as a bag of cleverness. I just laugh at it as the submarine flies by undetected and uneeded.

help in story 2nd draft what do i need to fix?

know i’ve asked this question before. but this is the second draft and i have more questions so here they are: keep in mind i’m only 12 and this is my 2nd draft, is this any good?what can i do to elongate the epilogue?do you think on the next chapter i should wright as 1st person or keep on writing from second?what grammar mistakes do i have?i didn’t use a thesaurus do i need one? what did you have as a general impression? all comments excepted i just want to know how i’m doing and what i need to fix. and no this is not for school i’m just doing this for my own personal interests.

EPILOGUE 2nd draft
A fire ravages through the town, eating all in its wake. It jumps merrily, frolicking from one thatched rooftop to another. The flames seem almost to be teasing the poor souls running away from it into a moonless, clouded night. They can see that a fire this immense can only be stopped by magic. Unfortunately for them their only wizard had been murdered, no, assassinated, earlier by the same villains who had started the blaze. As the flames begin to catch onto the pine and fir forest surrounding the village, the horde turns into a stampede and morals escape the people, not counting the few small children, too young too understand the problem, crying for their toys. In a mad dash to save their own skins and their loved ones they leave all the fallen behind. The people are few for their village had been nothing but a street of houses owned by the rich and poor, famous and unknown. There were not many famous people except the dead wizard, who was famous among the people only for her magic. She had moved here for reasons unknown to them, and had tried to hide among the villagers as another poor widow surviving in this world. Not one person looked back when a girl stumbled and fell over a protruding tree root and hit her head on a rock. Nor did they even throw back a passing glance when she did not make a move to get up at all.

As the girl woke up, she found herself accompanied by a pounding headache that let no other feeling through. She turned her head and winced when it got even worse. She tried to raise a hand to remove the dirt from her eyes, but abandoned the notion when her temple throbbed. After a minute or so that seemed like a millennia, she plucked up the courage to pick her hand up again. Then horror swept over her, making her hand fall. She did not even remember her own name! She could not recall how she got there or anything at all before waking up. With a second, less noticed wince she raised her hand and wiped her eyes. It was not only dirt as she had once thought, but a mixture of dirt and soot. She took in the view before her. It was not a beautiful sight, not even a slightly pretty one. It was horrifying. The trees that surrounded her were only scarred from the fire, but most of the undergrowth was burnt off. She was lying in a dirt clearing that the fire had left alone because of nothing reachable to burn within. She was in a dress that at one point must have been blue but now was as ashy and black as everything around her. She sat up and with several less profound and fading throbs managed to stand leaning against a tree. She tested her legs, walking a bit then running in a random direction. Then she stopped. A view of charred remains was all that was left of a once thriving village in front of her. Not that you could call it a village any longer, for it was nothing more than piles of sticks and ash with the random hard to burn item strewn in between. There were only vague hints about what places used to be. Presumably the third hut on the left was a clothing hut because it smelled of burnt cloth and had tattered and scorched scraps of the less burnable types of material around it. Something glinting in one of the bigger piles caught her eye. She went in for closer inspection and saw that what had glinted was the hinge of a door that fell down when she pushed it, but revealed what probably used to be a spacious walk in closet. It probably seemed spacious to her because the roof had burnt off along with the back wall. She searched for anything wearable but the only thing that actually resembled what it used to be was the top half of a skirt. She picked it up and gave it a shake. It promptly fell apart. On one piece she saw the name Maria stitched into the cloth. She checked her own dress for a name and finding none, decided to call herself Maria.

I’m having my first duel agaisnt a family friend’s son on Tuesday and he has a plant type Yu-Gi-Oh! deck (I think its 5Ds).
Thanks! It was supposed to be a zombie deck, but you can see how I got way off track. And anyway, those are all the zombies I have (except I didn’t add my Zombie Mammoth in it, due to me loosing 1900 lifepoints when it gets sent to the graveyard and I don’t have any cards to counter that yet.) If someone mentions a Zombie World Structure Deck, I can’t find it anywhere. I think its out of print.
JadenGregarkid12: Thanks, but the reason why I already thought of how to get rid of Gravity Bind before I made the deck. Darkness Neosphere lets me send all my trap cards to my hand once per turn. I’ll only use Gravity Bind when I have Darkness Neosphere.

Oh yeah, I phrased the question wrong. -_- I meant if its too bad. This is the best deck I can make with all the zombies I have. I have a lot of good cards, but I can’t use them because I have to use other cards with them which I don’t have yet.

Landlord harrasment and invasion of privacy?

I bought a mobile home that was in a trailer park and have a year lease. My Son his wife infant twins and 18 mo. old are staying with me for a few months due to hard times. Before my Son moved in with us our landlord told us a neighbor reported alot of “late night traffic” at our home, this accusation is ridiculous cause we are in bed at 9pm! After my Son moved in it got worse we have been accused of selling drugs we have been watched and everyone who comes to visit had their license plates copied on a paper by the landlord sitting outside our home in her truck and the landlords adult Daughter was caught looking in my Sons vehicle window with a flashlight about 9pm. When he asked her what she needed she asked if he just got out of prison he a said he has never been to prison but 10 mos ago he was in jail she said well… “whats the difference” I have no drinking alcohol allowed at my home the worst my Son does is smoke on the porch. I pay my space rent on time every month, I dont have any parties we arent loud we don’t fight with each other we just stay to ourselves My Husband drives a Lincoln Navigator 02 because of that rumors start! (small town) My Husband works hard full time as a maintenance supervisor he has a band on the wkends DJ’s and also does magic shows for kids parties we are a normal Family and do not sell drugs! What can I do if I feel I am being harrassed, unjustly accused of criminal activity and discriminated against. The last person who lived in this home was accused of the same thing and given 10 days to move. I know that was an illegal eviction but the person was so miserable here he didnt fight it! I feel an evicton is around the corner and I want to be prepared! Thank You!

I am thinking of hiring a magician to do slight of hand tricks for an hour at a 40th birthday party. The lowest quote I got was $150. Is it worth negotiating?

It was a quote taken from Alester Crowley, a ‘black-magician‘ and author.

As a buddhist, I’ll just add that my own take is that this statement negates other laws- it places more emphasis on desire and letting it loose, than on restraint of oneself and obedience to other laws; leading to the disregard and breaking of other laws.
“Love” is just too vague a word to be used in such a profound way as ~the~ law, as there are obviously MANY types of love. In the regular sense love is linked with passion, and desire- yet with passion and desire come ignorance (being ‘blinded’ by love/the emotions which flow) & anger (when the desires are not fufilled), & more importantly pain (when you are separated from what you love).

Therefore I would like to object with the late Mr. Crowley, as I believe that compassion (Bodhi), peace, and wisdom are ~the~ law.

Do what thou can to help others. =)

Thanks Tres- I’m aware that Crowley was a very dark character indeed, but one of the reasons in writing this was because I was intrigued as to why nobody had formulated an argument against it, and other ‘teachings’ of his, such as the likes of my argument!
